A patio is the simplest concrete price there is: area, finish, base, and anything in the way. The published size-by-size figures below are a good first look. The Cincinnati adjustments are the slope, the access and the structure you might put on it.
About the numbers. The ranges on this page are published national figures from HomeGuide, quoted with each page's date because they change. They are not our prices. Our price for your job is written after an estimator measures it, and it lists thickness, base, reinforcement, finish and the apron separately.
Published per-square-foot ranges, 2026
Plain concrete patio, installed: $4 to $12 per square foot. Stained or stamped: $8 to $30 per square foot (HomeGuide, patio page dated July 2025).

What moves a Cincinnati patio off the chart
- The slope. A flat patio on a sloped yard means cutting into the high side and building up or walling the low side. A short retaining edge or a step down is a separate line and the most common addition here.
- Access. A backyard reached only through a gate or down a hill is wheelbarrow or pump work.
- What's on it. A hot tub, an outdoor kitchen, a pergola or a roof means a thicker section, footings, and often a building permit.
- Removal. An old patio, a deck or a lot of landscaping has to come out first.
- Finish. Broom is the base price. Exposed aggregate sits in the middle. Stamped with color and sealer is the top of the range, and the stamped cost page explains why.
What's on our patio price
The area and thickness, the base, reinforcement, the finish by name, joints, any step or wall, removal, the first sealing, and the permit if one applies. Nothing left to a verbal.
Questions
What size patio do most people pour?
Around 12 by 14 to 16 by 16 for a dining set and a grill. We'll chalk it out with you at the estimate.
Is a stamped patio worth the extra?
If you'll re-seal it every two or three years and like the look, yes. If you want the lowest upkeep, broom or exposed aggregate.
Does a patio need a permit?
A slab on your lot usually doesn't in Cincinnati; one that carries a roof or structure often does, and suburbs differ. We ask your building department.
Can you pour a patio in October?
Yes, with an eye on the forecast. Concrete needs to stay above about 40°F while it cures, and a fall patio should be sealed before winter.
Do you remove the old patio?
Yes, priced by the area and material as its own line.
How thick is a patio?
Four inches on a compacted gravel base, reinforced, with a thicker section under anything heavy.
